TIBET - Roof of the World :

Known as the "Roof of the World", Tibet is the highest plateau in the world, rising about 4 km above sea level and covers an area of nearly half a million square miles of vast open spaces, rolling hills, with a perpetually intense blue sky over it. Its unique landscape and rich Buddhist culture have drawn adventurers, pilgrims, scholars and traders throughout its chequered history.

Inhabited by a deeply religious people with a highly developed culture that revolves around a unique form of Buddhism, religion is not a matter of occasional ritual but an integral part of everyday life in Tibet. Visits to Buddhist monasteries and temples are an important part of any journey to Tibet. Travelers are likely to encounter Buddhist monks and nomads with yak caravans and sheep on its immense plains.

You can travel to Tibet from Kathmandu by air or by road (overland; retracing the ancient caravan route) or a combination of the two.
