DAKSHINKALI |
|
|
 |
This temple of Hindu Goddess
Kali (Goddess of destruction
of evil) is a pleasant drive
through the southern rim of
the valley. Along the way
visit the 17th Century
temple of Sesh Narayan and
for those willing to hike a
bit can take a tour to the
temple of Goddess Bajara
Jogini which is located on a
hilltop overlooking a
cluster of Newari
settlements. The main shrine
at Dakshinkali is located in
the midst of a green forest
at the base of a hill. This
shrine is especially crowded
during Tuesdays and
Saturdays when devotees come
from all over Nepal to offer
animal sacrifices to the
deity. |

GODAVARI |

 |
A pleasant scenic drive of
22 Km south of Kathmandu
through Newar farming town
lies Godavari at the very
base of Phuchoki, the
highest hill in Kathmandu.
The greenery at Godavari is
astounding and the place is
home to a tremendous variety
of birds. The one and only
botanical garden of the

CHANGUNARAYAN |
|
 |
The temple is said to be
built during the 4th century
and it was rebuilt again in
1702 after being destroyed
by an earthquake. It is
considered as the oldest
temple in the valley. It is
located at the top of a spur
displaying beautiful view of
the valley and the Himalayan
ranges towards the north. A
hike of about three to four
hours along the ridge from
here to Nagarkot is most
interesting. of

NAGARKOT AND DHULIKHEL |
|
 |
Located at an altitude of
2174 meters Nagarkot is
probably the most popular
spot for viewing the sunrise
or sunset over the Himalayan
ranges. A beautiful scenic
drive uphill for an hour
brings you to the resorts
where you can have a
relaxing evening to enjoy
the scenic grandeur.
Overnight halt at one of the
beautiful resorts there is
quite worthwhile.
About equidistant from
Kathmandu is another
Hill-station – Dhulikhel,
just as beautiful as
Nagarkot. These are the two
most popular destinations
for overnight or day
excursions for the mountain
views. Interesting day hikes
or treks ranging from 2 to 3
days or longer can also be
done from these
hill-stations. |
